Indian billionaire Sunil Mittal is in advanced talks to buy a 49% stake in the Indian unit of HAIER SMARTHOME (06690.HK), Bloomberg quoted sources as saying. Mittal has teamed up with private equity firm Warburg Pincus in a plan to buy a stake in Haier Appliances (India) Pvt. for about US$2 billion. The deal is likely to be signed within a few weeks, depending on the approval of the relevant regulators, the sources added. Negotiations are still ongoing, while other buyers could also emerge.
